The West London hailing rapper has released a soothsaying-ly divine new single 'Pressure', joined by an equally mystical-themed video full of stop motion, flickering graphics and enchanting illustrations presented by Delphino Productions. The single comes ahead of his new 8-track EP Talk Is Cheap, which is due to be released next month.
This highly anticipated track has Foxell talking about the pressures of the industry and about how he wants to surpass his rivals. As well as sounding ambitious and esoteric throughout, the lyrics speak of letting people know around him that he's on a big come up, and sure enough he's definitely is. Having been mentioned by Complex as one of the hottest British emcees to watch out for in 2020, Finn Foxell has continued to deliver in terms of production and lyrical content as he draws out the crucial parts of rap, soul, rock and more to try and create something entirely unique for his listeners. Composed independently, 'Pressure' was produced by Alpha Red, and is an "ode to wanting to do better whilst declaring self-belief and hope". His euphonious tone of voice and effortless flow have become something enchanting, which is now a part of his signature sound. As he cites artists such as Giggs, The Streets and Anderson Paak, Foxell tries to extract these key elements into creating a new take on UK Hip-Hop that is equally impressive and leaves you wanting more.
Growing up in Shepherds Bush in West London, music was a strong influence on Foxell when he was young. As his father is a songwriter and his mother a heavy music enthusiast, his brother was also a rapper at a young age. Being the youngest of 4, music was an emotional outlet for Finn as a child as he started to write lyrics at the age of eight. Rising up in the underground London scene, he has since bloomed into a distinguished artist who has gathered a large and loyal fanbase from his releases over the years that include 'Buddha', 'Ericsson', 'What For' and the Good Tea EP from last year. Whilst defying the norms of generic rap, Finn is now part of the friendship and creative collective Elevation Mediation, including names such as P-rallel, Lord Apex, Xav and Louis Culture.
With 2020 kicking off to a strong start with Foxell selling out his very first headline show at Peckham Audio just before lockdown, he has also been fortunate to have shared stages with Slowthai, Lava La Rue, Eliza and The Manor. He performed at Boiler Room's 4-day festival last year for the Hip-Hop event, is now featuring on BBC introducing and is played across a handful of radio stations such as BBC 1xtra, Rinse FM and Reprezent Radio. Whilst we wait for Talk Is Cheap next month, the rapper has expressed that a lot more of his mind fits onto it. As each song will have its own characteristics of sounds, Foxell will be displaying all the new talents he's learnt since Good Tea. Expect to hear a more introspective style of music that explores deep into his flourishing musical flair.
