Yeat Keeps The Adrenaline Pumping With Ferocious New Album “AftërLyfe”

Rap’s latest knockout Yeat makes his return to streaming platforms with new 22-track project Aftërlyfe, a woozy and experimental project that picks up where 2022’s Lyfë left off. Notorious for his fuzzy, distorted sound and unique form of mumble rapping, Aftërlyfe is spearheaded by a fresh sound and a star-studded collaboration with Louisiana heavyweight Youngboy Never Broke Again. The project defies the binary, meshing together the trap/rage-hop influences we heard on hit singles like Gët Busy with hypnotic trip-hop and even a sprinkle of pop; most notable on new tunes Nun id change and Mysëlf.

The signature umlaut makes its appearance on several song titles, immediately affirming that although we’re bound to hear something new, Yeat keeps his roots firmly intact. We’re greeted with swivelled synths in first song No more talk, a frosty intro into an explosive body of work. Perhaps it’s the generally mystifying aura of Yeat that makes his aversion to clarity so effective, everything about him is hard to distinguish, impossible to pigeonhole. This only accentuates his nifty flows and flawless beat selection, arguably his music’s most standout traits – we move from the electronic intro song to the rage-induced Shmunk, featuring Youngboy. Crescendoing echoes and hazy ad-libs pepper the number, with Youngboy’s verse immaculately matching the vibe.

The momentum of the project often peaks and lows from start to finish, the tamer moments offering you a chance to release your head from the subconscious head-bopping and stank face. It becomes obvious about halfway through that Aftërlyfe isn’t intended to be pure moshpit fuel, it’s a project that adapts to your scenario. The title of the album is a fitting nod to its essence, a jam-packed sequel to September’s Lyfë that answers the questions the aforementioned project left us hanging with. Chock-full with 22 tracks, Afterlyfë fulfils that undeniable craving Yeat often provides to his fans, we're often left lusting for more despite being spoiled for choice with his large discography. Yeat’s work ethic, coupled with talent, presence and incredible marketing has landed him acknowledgement from hip-hop behemoths Drake and Lil Uzi Vert, who featured on Lyfë’s intro track Flawlëss.

Afterlyfë serves as Yeat’s 8th entry into an already impressive full-length catalogue, but it’s clear that his drive isn’t stopping anytime soon. 2022 was a big year for the 23-year-old crooner; reaching the highest heights of streaming numbers and sporting several viral moments on social media, he clearly has nothing to prove. The project dropped just in time for his several tours on the horizon, such as his March North America tour and his first voyage through several European festivals. A star has been born and the world continues to watch attentively as Yeat paints his name in the sky.
