Riveting. Enchanting. Impeccable.
The first three words that came to my mind when I saw the Comme des Garçons SS25 collection. Rei Kawakubo named it “Uncertain Future” and talked about approaching the tomorrow with transparency in order to generate hope.

The clothes were CDG’s classic play on voluminous clothing and exaggerated silhouettes. Unlike AW’24 which had a predominantly black colour pallette with white pieces, this season it was a mix of white and red with multiple supporting colours.

Puffed dresses resembling clouds, ornaments and chess pieces paraded down the runway, in an offering which would have spellbound any couture lover. Pieces made from fabrics resembling bloodied white clothes added to the meanings and emotions Rei Kawakubo was trying to convey.

“Uncertain Future” was all about looks meant to evoke different feelings in whosoever glanced upon them. Some would see what was presented at face value, clothes looking like things found on mantelpieces. I saw clouds, bloodied rags stuffed in nets, chess pieces, photos of people attached together and patterns on fabric of flowers and mandalas referencing styles found in Asia. I saw emotions about the world today and the situations we are tied up in which have the capability to influence our future and whether there is certainty of it existing.
