MTMBO Releases Illustrative Visuals For Track 'Headlights'

The London-based musician, vocalist and producer Richie Matembo has released hypnotic and animated visuals that accompany his track 'Headlights' that comes from his 2019 EP Grip.

MTMBO has a distinctive sound that has him blooming into different parts within the music industry. By supporting other artists such as Cautious Clay and Odie, MTMBO takes influences from the idea of exploring identity, his Zambian roots with a British upbringing and neo-soul sounds that create a concoction of sensory experiences, alongside minimal beats and ambient sounds. This particular sound came around in his debut EP Unless which was fortified by three intimate shows in Birmingham, Bristol and London which we were lucky enough to review this January.

The visuals for Headlights' come from a collaboration with Indonesian-based illustrator Dedisuseno which has the animations explore the journey into the mind that tries to navigate through anxiety and uncertainty.

"Change of any sort can often feel like an uncomfortable experience and I’ve always been fascinated by the sensation of feeling like a passenger in your own mind during that process,” says MTMBO.

“We wanted to create something that shows that journey, with a reminder that it is possible to come through that anxiety and reclaim yourself on the other side.”
