Blanco Calls Checkmate With New Single "Magneto": Listen

Kennington’s Blanco follows up his latest hit “The Great Escape” with a crisp new offering “Magneto”.

The 22-year-old goes far beyond just ticking off the boxes of drill’s niche sounds and once again proves to be one of the most innovative and compelling artists occupying the UK rap scene.

The track is a terse but contemplative taste of his upcoming mixtape ‘City of God’ slated for release on the 30th of July 2021. The artist loads his verses with his usual trim bars which he layers with new levels of depth. Drawing inspiration from the Stan Lee character Magneto – a character which seems to be greatly misunderstood by some – the ‘bad guy’ whose intentions were more noble than what appears at first glance.

There is an element to the South Londoner’s sound which is matchless and seemingly neoteric as his rasping voice slices through the murky production. Utilising his alluring and unclassifiable tones over a looming 808 drop Blanco satisfies fans with yet another banger.

The visuals portray Blanco facing his opponent in a tense game of chess; a hybrid of his quotidian and the infamous scene from X-Men. The video’s creative direction was curated by Faces who is known for putting together the imagery for Blanco’s previous hit singles “Pull Up”, “Shippuden”, “Memphis” and “Anakin”.
