New Wave

Summer Walker - Clear EP

Updated: Jan 3

The enigma that is Summer Walker has added to her discography with her latest EP, entitled Clear. In a Beyonce-like fashion, the project dropped with less than a day’s notice and with little to no promo – this could almost be described as a surprise drop, that was very much welcomed.

With only 10 minutes running time and 4 tracks, this EP immediately has you longing for more. Presented in the form of live recordings, with only backing singers and a band providing the basis for her vocals, it is as authentic as it gets.

Accompanied by a live video that captures Summer performing the EP, the magic is only furthered. Whimsical and soothing, the 22-year old’s voice resonates from the onset. Themes exploring love, self-love, relationships and the difficulties that come with them, are at the forefront of this body of work. Tracks like ‘Riot’ and ‘Settling’ touch on the complications and differences that can be complicit with relationships or situationships – where as ‘Wasted’ and ‘Grave’ although different are passionate in their own right, content relating to being ‘drunk on love’ and proving oneself.

Making for a smooth listen, the replay value of this EP is immense. The young Atlanta songstress continues to solidify her place at the forefront of the new wave of R’N’B. Now holding two strong projects under her belt, we can’t wait to see what Summer has in store for 2019.
