Sasha Keable Regains Her Power On R&B Cut 'Hold Up'

Updated: Apr 29

Expressing justified anger on her first single in three years the R&B offering ‘Hold Up’ is South Londoner Sasha Keable’s response to regaining her power and agency after experiencing heartache due to infidelity and a harsh ending of a romantic relationships.

Composed from an emotive jazzy piano melody that are backed by percussion elements and layered around gospel harmonies the texture of the beat is rich. Playfully in moments the sounds of a saxophone can be heard crisply crying out.

This perfectly suits the mood that Sasha conveys. Straight and direct, she sings with charisma and a smooth velvet tone that is enticing.

In her own words Sasha explains the origins of her new creation: “The new music came from a place of feeling powerless in everything else in life, the only place I felt safe and like I had control over the outcome was in the studio, so I just lived in there, I lived my life, and wrote songs about it everyday.

I’ve found the joy in creating and a safe space within music I’ve never had before. It’s always felt so all or nothing and now I realise I’m just here to do what is best for me, to express myself through myself. I can’t do anymore than that.”

As the narrative develops, we witness her being clear in her intensions to hold her ex accountable for their actions, whilst also not being able to hide her amusement asks “wait hold up, Bitch why you calling me asking me for money.” And then going on to demonstrate a stunning crescendo.

The accompanying video, directed by Jackson Forsythe is filmed around London capturing vibrant life in the capital. Galivanting around the city with friend, collaborator and artist kwn, the video sees Sasha having fun venturing in pubs, a work office and joyriding in a car park.

Excited for a new beginning for Sasha, we cannot wait to see what else she has to say.
