Sacai Debuts Two Collections To Demonstrate Unity

Updated: Aug 1, 2021

Sacai has officially unveiled its Men's Spring/Summer 2022 and Women's Pre-Spring 2022 collections. The notion of connection is expressed through the dual unveiling, which the label describes as a “metaphor for unity and as a technique for joining together two materials – two ideas that have been at the heart of Sacai since the beginning.”

The men's collection had a more expeditionary feel to it, with a focus on coats and vests that could be worn on the street or at the campsite—after all, an active lifestyle may mean various things to different people. When Abe was in town for couture, she had the collections shot on the streets of Paris, where a well-timed rain shower helped her make her point about usefulness.

Sacai re-contextualized elements of its iconic fabrications for its Men's SS22 and Women's Pre-Spring 2022 collections, including paisley bandana print, buffalo checks, and rug jacquards on waterproof technical nylon. Suits were updated with outdoor technical accents such as external workplace pockets and bonded seams, while long Chesterfield coats were transformed into weatherproof coat dresses made of a mix of satin and ripstop nylon.

Her latest Sacai men's and women's collections include yet another collaboration, this time with the cult German streetwear label ACRONYM, whose designer Errolson Hugh has been compared to "some sort of ninja-god-slash astronaut" by GQ. ACRONYM is known for its monotone technical outerwear. Abe contributed the bandana prints, buffalo plaids, and Errolson brought the waterproof nylon.
