Relatively at the beginning of his career, talented Liverpool rapper Mazza L2O, breathes new life into his latest offering ‘Murdaside’, after sharing the remix featuring Aitch and Potter Payper
Manchester, London and Liverpool are brought together as the trio breathes new life into the already celebrated track as they explore the harsh realities of the streets, road life, and the challenges faced by many people who grow up in tough neighbourhoods.
Not mincing words or pulling punching, all three rappers paint a vivid picture of their respective inner cities, favouring a raw and authentic approach to the haunting piano-based beat.
The original version has enjoyed over 2.1 million streams on Spotify and has allowed the rapper to build a strong following on the social media platform TikTok despite the fact that the rapper is currently still in prison
On the hook on ‘Murdaside’ Mazza raps “I’m from a place where if you have beef you let the burner fly /Ask him where he’s from, he’s not a Scouser, he said, Merseyside / I don’t need no tick, by me name to show I’m verified.”
The track also explores the idea of home and belonging, whilst placing value on authenticity, the rappers cannot help but normalise the violence they’ve experienced with a coarseness
The accompanying music video, directed by Archie Erskine and Kaylum Dennis reflects the mood of the track as it presents life on the roads, with handwritten signs saying ‘free Mazza’, highlighting the consequences of the street life. making appearances Potter Payper and Aitch also make appearances in the video.
The collaboration as a whole has widened Mazza L20’s audience by working with more established names in the UK music scene and brought his name further attention. There is also a SouseMix featuring Aystar and a version that represents the talent coming out of Birmingham in the form of RM and Pistol Po.
