Obongjayar Shows Us The Way Forward With New EP

Obongjayar is back with a new project since the release of his 2017 EP Bassey, showcasing his talents as a modern-day trailblazer of traditional Afrobeat music infused with spoken word and soul music. Rolling out this project, Obongjayar has continued to cultivate his sound and find his imprint in the music world with single releases such as Fren, Still Sun and God's Own Children. Obongjayar has also had the opportunity of collaborating with artists such as Danny Brown on 2 songs featured on the respected rap artist's latest project.

On 'Which Way Forward' Obongjayar taps into a space of intense focus as he carves a lane in music many have not treaded as of yet. Infusing the sounds of legends such as Lagbaja and Fela Kuti with eclectic production choices. Obonngjayar told Fader "Which Way Is Forward? is a project that touches on cleaning the house, looking inwards, reconciling your demons. It’s a project that asks the question - what are we even doing? Because it feels like we’ve tried everything and gone in every direction and always end up where we started …. chaos." Songs such as God's Own Childen and Carry Come Carry Go have a sense of urgency and speak on ideas of darkness and despair while aiming to keep a level head and persistence.

The latest Single for the project '10K' has a visual to match as he describes the records as " a song about survival. Wanting better for yourself, and how quick to move you have to be if you want to achieve that. Whether you work a 9-5 or whatever, or you’re an immigrant reaching for better opportunities, you’ve got to move quickly. The world is changing at lightning speed, match its pace or get run over."
