Lava La Rue Enlists Deb Never For Dreamy New Track ‘Angel’

The talented musician dropped their euphoric single after announcing EP BUTTER-FLY which will be arriving January 2021.

Produced by Isom Innis from Foster The People, ‘Angel’ has truly pushed Lava into newer levels whilst she effortlessly uses her talents to produce this quasi-hallucinatory track. Whilst embracing queerness in this love song Deb Never, who features on the track, reflects on romantic recollections from West London to the West Coast.

Whilst this single comes after ‘G.O.Y.D’ with American musician Clairo and production talent from the talented VEGYN, Lava has proved her multifaceted creativeness as a musician, and also her willingness to collaborate with different artists. Fitting herself right in between soft vocals and a iconic rap flow, the visuals that accompany ‘Angel’ deliver a psychedelic dreamworld full of dancing flowers but also empty shorelines which juxtapose themselves, pushing ideas of wholeness and reunion.

Speaking on the track Lava states:

“Angel” was a product of Me & my friend Isom Inis (of Foster The People) meeting each other in downtown LA and fusing some west coast acid rock with a bit of west London R’nB.

We made the whole song from scratch in a day, he’s a wizard on the synth and I was jamming on guitar. lyrically I started writing about this girl I was falling for and realised how most contemporary queer pop songs have quite a 2010s sound to it and I’d love to make a queer love song that had a 80s psychedelic pop formula to it  - and bring that into the 2020s.  So I started rapping on the intro all “talking heads” style. It was fun.

Then the second time I came to LA to finish little touches on the song I got super close with Deb Never, lockdown happened and then she moved to 2 minutes from me in west London to finish her project and we started having hilarious adventures together so It all organically clicked together for her to hop on the song as a feature too.”
