Emerging from Nigeria’s culture-shifting Alté scene is Lady Donli (aka Cash Mummy) with another groove-filled track Wonda Wonda featuring DarkoVibes.
At just the tender age of 23, Lady Donli has already developed an enriching soundscape with recurring themes like enjoyment and Nigeria’s highlife embedded in her music. Wonda Wonda (pod. by Kuvie) marks her first single since her album Enjoy Your Life dropped last year and it is evident that she has a way of modernising classic Nigerian styles to deliver her own unique interpretation of Afrobeats.
The track also features an animated visualiser where we see Lady Donli as a character who is being pestered by a number of lovers whom she pays no mind to until DarkoVibes' character comes along with a simple gesture that finally draws her attention. Speaking about the creation of the track, Donli expresses that “Wonda Wonda was the first song I made post dropping my debut album. I hadn't been feeling too inspired to make anything new but once Kuvie started working on the beat, I sort of felt the spirit. Everything happened so quickly and naturally. I don’t think I’ve ever made a song so smoothly before.”
