For 'Come Over', she calls on the Jamaican superstar Popcaan, intertwining their two styles to form a perfect amalgamation of R&B and Dancehall. The intro sets up for a more conventional Jorja Smith track, with silky keys reminiscent of her 2018 album 'Lost and Found' - but that quickly changes as a pulsating dancehall drum beat adds a whole different flavour to the track. In addition, the combination of Jorja's angelic voice with Popcaan's slightly high pitched and remarkably rhythmic vocals is perfect, as the two juxtaposing cadences,along with the equally juxtaposing club-ready instrumental and lyrics about love troubles unify incredibly; Popcaan deserves extra credit for his fantastic bridge with vocals kindred to Travis Scott, linking the chorus to his short but sweet, unmistakable verse.
The song is given even more life with a stunning animated anime-esque video, which is easily one of the best animated music videos I've ever seen. The detail is breathtaking from start to finish to such an extent that on mute, you could easily be fooled into thinking this is an actual animated film. The video, like the song, is beyond impressive and the combination of the two means I see nothing but a viral hit here - be prepared for this to skyrocket to #1.
