Fred Perry X Nicholas Daley Collection Focuses On Unsigned Musicians For The British Society

The Fred Perry x Nicholas Daley collection was released on July 15, 2021 at 10 a.m. BST (and in particular, the Music Grant launching alongside it). Nicholas Daley, a British designer, focuses on the renowned roots reggae musician Peter Tosh for this Quarter, showing the 1970s synergy between music and martial arts. The collection features genre-defying musician Sam Akpro, whose sound combines influences from his London upbringing and his family's Gambian ancestry.

Fred Perry is a British table tennis and tennis player who won ten major titles, the brand emerged in the 1940s when Perry agreed to help market a new sweatband with an ex-Australian football player called Tibby Wegner. The two athletes worked together on the innovative new idea, which proved incredibly popular around the UK. Nicholas Daley is a fashion designer for men. Daley graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2013 and launched his label with Culture Clash for S/S 15, a collection that established the brand's identity through nuanced references to past and present British subcultures.

Nicholas Daley wants to start a project that would give back to the UK music scene, which he admires.

The British music business is now in a terrible position. As independent venues close, ambitious musicians must discover new ways to build a name for themselves in the music industry. The Fred Perry x Nicholas Daley music grant will provide assistance to one lucky artist or band in honing their skill and releasing their music into the world.

The second Fred Perry x Nicholas Daley music grant, granting a recording masterclass at Metropolis Studios to one lucky artist or band, will be announced in conjunction with the launch. The entries will be judged by a panel of five industry experts, including musicians Nilufer Yanya and Nubya Garcia, DJs Bradley Zero and Gilles Peterson, and music writer Tara Joshi. Unsigned UK-based musicians are invited to submit their work from Thursday 15th July to Thursday August 5th.

“Music is the unifying force between our brands and plays a key role in each collaboration collection. That is why during a time when the music industry is under great threat we decided to pull together and offer the music grant to support the next generation of musicians here in the UK. I have pulled together a diverse and experienced judging panel who will bring their expertise within the industry to select our grant winner and I am looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition."
