Taking the R&B playlists by storm, LA artist Blxst (pronounced Blast) delivers hits filled with honesty from his debut mixtape ‘No Love Lost'. Talented rapper, singer and producer, this solo debut is a reflection of the pitfalls of relationships, explored through diverse production style that blends rap with elements of contemporary R&B.
2021 looks very promising for the Blxst and we caught up with him to get to know him a little better.
We love your sound! - Have you always known that you wanted to create music? When did you start taking it seriously?
No, I grew a passion for it after high school. But it was always in me.
We love your versatility! - Who were some of your musical influences growing up?
Growing up my musical influences were Pharrell, Kanye West, Ryan Leslie basically artists that produce as well.
We love the title to your mixtape ‘No Love Lost’ - What was the process for this?
The process behind NLL was me wanting to put together a body of work telling my story.
We love your song “Pressure”! - This song exudes confidence, speaking about his wins, his losses and other triumphant moments. Have you always been confident within yourself? Is it something you learnt over time?
My self belief definitely developed over time, but in the back of my mind I always knew it was possible. Anything is possible.
We love the features on your mixtape! - If you could collaborate with any female artists who would they be?
The deluxe has features from some of my favorite LA artists, such as Ty Dolla $ign, Bino Redieux, Dom Kennedy and more. Jhene Aiko, I think her sound would match well with mine. And we’re from the same city.
We Love Your Beat selection – How involved are you with the different elements to your tracks?
Very! I work on the engineering to the production, that's very important to me. Ultimately, I have a vision to protect.
We love your drive! - What would you say to your supporters, who want to follow in your footsteps?
Be original, and be intentional behind the things you say and do.
We love how you're blowing up – You were recently compared to Nate Dogg! How did that feel?
It's crazy! I think any comparison to a legend is a compliment and an honor.
We love your versatility! - What do you think sets you apart from others?
My approach is different, I think about what I can add to the culture or what I can bring to the table.
We love your consistency! - What can we expect to see from you in 2021?
You can accept two projects and lots of content to go behind them!
